Elon Musk is a South African-born American industrial engineer, entrepreneur, who co-founded Paypal and founded aerospace transportation services company SpaceX. He is also one of the early investors in Tesla, an electric car company, and now the Chief Executive Officer of the firm as well.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla said in tweets that he is giving serious thought to creating a social media platform because Twitter is “failing to adhere to free speech principle.”
Eelon Musk is one of the richest men in the world. He has always been active on the popular social networking site Twitter. But he recently has been putting harshly criticized the Twitter’s policies. In this situation, he conducted a poll in Twitter. On that poll Elon Musk asked his 79 million followers on March 25 that “free speech is essential to a functioning democracy”. and he questioned if Twitter “rigorously adheres to this principle”, and he gave the option “Yes” or “No” to vote. He also said that the outcome of the poll will be very important and therefore “please vote carefully”. Most people chose the option “NO”. Over 70% said “NO”.
One of the many users said, “I wish Elon Musk would just buy Twitter already. Anyone else?”. Another one said, “Hey @elonmusk will you please buy @twitter, free @TheBabylonBee & return the true marketplace of ideas to this site? We need you to make it happen”.
Elon Musk Wants to Create a New Social Media Platform?
One of his follower Pranay Pathole retweet to Elon Musk that “Would you consider building a new social media platform, @elonmusk? One that would consist an open source algorithm, one where free speech and adhering to free speech is given top priority, one where propaganda is very minimal. I think that kind of a platform is needed.”
Currently, as Musk also mentioned in his reply to Pranay Pathole, launching a social media platform is just a “serious thought”. and maybe he will never launch his own social app, or maybe he will. We do not know anything about that right now.
Musk made the statement after an earlier set of Saturday tweets sharing his discontent with the microblogging and social networking company. He later replied to a follower who asked if Musk would consider creating a new platform an alternate to Twitter to give free speech top priority.
Same Ideology Behind Former US President Donald Trump
Twitter and other social media platforms’ algorithms have been criticised by several prominent personalities, including Trump in the past. The former US President continues to be banned from Twitter. Currently, Musk wants to launch a social media platform where users can write whatever they want. It is similar to the ideology behind former US President Donald Trump launching his social platform- Social Truth. Trump decided to launch his own social media platform after being banned from Twitter, Facebook and several other social apps.
